Stainless steel is the most used material for door and cabinet handles in the kitchen. That’s because of its resistance to corrosion and beautiful aesthetics. But of course, you still need to take good care of your steel handles to make sure that they will last and look good for a long time. Castella shares some tips for keeping your kitchen’s steel door knobs and cabinet handles well maintained.
Remove and Clean Occasionally
Unscrew the knob and clean it every once in a while to get all of the grime out of it. All that dirt can get into hard-to-reach areas of your knob or handle, which can build up and harden over time. This can be very hard to remove by then.
If the dirt is not that extreme, you can simply clean it using warm water and soap. But if it is stubborn, buy a special concoction from the hardware to make sure you get that nasty grime off your handles.
The thing about stainless steel, however, is that it can oxidise over time. One of the most effective ways to remove the film is to use a mixture of pumice powder and water. You can buy this in hardware stores.
To use, apply the mixture to the dirty areas and then rinse it with warm water right after. This loosens up the dirt, making it easier to wipe off even just with a washcloth.
If all else fails and you feel like you can no longer remove the dirt from your kitchen hardware no matter what you do, then it might be time to get new ones.
Look for high-quality stainless steel door knobs and cabinet handles to make sure you will be able to use them for a very long time. Always do your research first and ask the manufacturer for some tips when it comes to cleaning your knobs and handles.
