Smoking and Dating: The Unlikely Link

Smoking and Dating: The Unlikely Link

The latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that 15 in every 100 legal adults in the US are smokers. Tobacco consumption is also at a very high rate: more than 12 million smokers in the country can consume 10-19 cigarettes a day, US Consensus data and Simmons National Consumer Survey (NHCS) say.

Smoking as a habit has become so ingrained into many people’s lives that it’s made an impact on health and public regulations. Recently, surveys show that it also affects other aspects of an individual’s life — their dating lives, specifically.

Smoking Addiction is a Deal-Breaker for Non-Smokers

A survey in Tokyo, a city with a large population of smokers, revealed that women don’t find this habit attractive. Out of the 329 adult women surveyed, 73.7% said they don’t see themselves dating guys who smoke.

This finding is consistent with the results of another survey which researchers conducted in the United States. More than 500 men and women answered questions about their dating preference, and about 64% of non-smoking men and women said they wouldn’t date a smoker. Interestingly, 6.7% of female smokers and 12.1% of male smokers also said the same thing.

These findings indicate that habits — specifically, smoking — are huge factors in people’s dating preference regardless of their country of origin.

Permissible while Dating

The respondents of both studies pointed out specific reasons why they find smoking a huge turn-off.

For many women, the smell of tobacco is unappealing. It clings to clothes, hair, and skin, and is very difficult to get rid of. The taste of tobacco also lingers after kissing someone who smokes.

The health concerns of smoking, however, weighed on the respondents the most. Some admitted they could tolerate smoking habits while dating; but, if they are ever to marry, they’d prefer their partner to quit. They don’t want their future children exposed to secondhand smoke.

Save Your Health (and Dating Life)

It’s a well-known fact that quitting smoking is not easy. For habitual smokers who don’t want their habit to kill their dating life, and for those who want to stop the habit altogether, VaporKnightUSA.com says e-cigarettes could be the answer. Vape from e-liquids doesn’t smell bad. Moreover, e-cigarettes are far less dangerous than traditional cigarettes and can help smokers to eventually quit.

By switching to e-cigarettes, men and women can have healthier bodies and dating lives.
